Chapter 1 – Rat
- Why did Rat and Raphael quickly leave the canal? Because the police were coming
- What was ‘the river of blue’ that Rat was talking about? the swarm of police
- Why did Gardo walk to Colva prison? To get the bible from the prison guard. What bad news did Gardo bring back? That it would cost 2000 pesos. Why was this a problem? Because they had no money.
- How did Rat manage to get the money? he got the money from the school safe at Behala. Why did he feel bad about this and how did he try to make it more acceptable? He felt bad because the people at the school were always so nice to him. He tried to make it better by leaving a drawing, to try to explain who took it.
- Why did Rat have to rush to get the money? Because he didn't want to get caught by father Julliard or the police.
- Why were the boys so scared of being found by the police? because they thought the police would break every bone in there bodies, slow and mean, loving it.
- Who was Marco and what happened to him? he was the prison guard who helped Gardo, Raphael & Rat get Gabriel’s Bible
- Why was Gardo angry at him? because he wouldn't get the bible at the meeting with Gabriel
Chapter 4 – Raphael
- Why was the Bible so useful to the boys? they used it to solve the code and determine where the money was
Chapter 5 – Jun-Jun (Rat)
- What precautions did Rat make earlier that helped the boys to quickly escape now? he talked with the street kids to get to know the area
- The boys’ escape was made easier in 2 ways. What were these? the policeman with the gun was slow and Rat knew the area.
- Who was Frederico and how is he involved in the story? he made the grave stones for Jose's wife, son and daughter.
- Read the 4 newspaper articles. Explain how each has a different point of view of the situation concerning the loss of the money. STAR EXTRA: is about the police 'closing in' on the crime. INQUIRER: talks about how Zapanta is dealing with the theft. DAILY STAR: is the view from someone important on the amount of money Zapanta had. UNIVERSITY VOICE: is how people are taking the amount of money the vice-president had/has.
